Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pays particular attention to the inner environment of body Energetics, our Qi. All areas of TCM (acupuncture, herbalism, tui na massage, Qi Gong, Taoist martial arts) work primarily with the promotion of free flowing Qi and organ harmony.
The term Qi, when in context with the human body, has two types. One is the material that is formed to sustain our physical presence obtained from the breath and food. The other is related to the essence inherently received at conception.
Qi has four vectors of movement; upward, downward, incoming and outgoing.
Qi has five functions; moving and circulating substances like blood and fluids, warming the layers of the body like skin and muscles, creating a barrier against external pathogens like viruses and bacteria, maintaining our structural integrity against organ prolapse and bleeding, and orchestrating metabolism.
