The lungs are situated on top of the other organs (the skin is related to lungs) and connect with the openings of heart and liver. It takes in natural air (clear Qi) and moves the body’s waste material down to the large intestine.
The lungs are responsible for the transformation and movement of water in the body. It allows water vapour to ascend through the pores of the skin producing normal perspiration. Also, the lungs allow water vapour to descend to the kidneys where the waste is passed out as urine.
The lungs are referred to as the delicate organ, which means that it is easily influenced by external factors such as cold and heat. Also, sadness compromises lung Qi, resulting in all bodily Qi being dissolved, especially the heart Qi (heart governs emotions). This also means that blood circulation is compromised because the lungs connect with the blood and blood vessels.
If the lung Qi does not descend, symptoms will move upward such as frequent coughing, a cold nose, headaches, wheezing, a puffy face, throat obstructions and face blemishes.
The nose is the opening for the lungs and the exit for bodily Qi. If there is disharmony in the lungs the nose is affected and causes discharge, congestion, a loss of smell and sneezing.
