  About Us

The Owners

simonWelcome to my online teashop. My name is Simon Attenborough from Perth, Western Australia.

Seventeen years ago I travelled into China from Pakistan, via the Silk Road, and since then have had an attraction to Chinese culture and traditions. I spent four years in the famous tea-growing region of Anhui Province, increasing my knowledge of green tea and developing relationships with the locals.

Green tea is one of the greatest gifts from nature to mankind. Not only does it give us immeasurable health benefits, it gives us great pleasure in sampling the numerous varieties available. Like fine wines, we can appreciate (and collect) fine green teas. Sharing quality time with friends over a cup of great green tea is one of life’s added bonuses.

SimonIt gives me great pleasure to share with you the most authentic organic green tea available from China. My products are the result of four years of seeking out the finest quality certified organic green tea.

Most western tea companies use an agent or middleman to purchase their tea. A lot of the time, they are sent a lesser grade of tea than what they intended on receiving. There are many tricks to this ancient trade and quite often it’s difficult to maintain a consistent quality. To optimise my quality, I personally oversee the tea selection and packaging in person. For me, playing an active role in the production and distribution process gives customers satisfaction in knowing where their tea comes from and puts a face to the product.

Thank you for taking an interest in my green tea and I hope that you get the same pleasure out of this pure natural product as I do.

Best wishes,

Simon Attenborough

In the mountain area of Xiuning County in Anhui Province, the tea farmers are seeing the benefits of producing organic tea. They have been producing organic tea since 1999, selling it to big cities throughout China and the world. The incomes of tea farmers have increased year by year. In 2002, the per capita income of this tea growing area was 1,600 Yuan (AU$270), two times of that in 2001. In 2003, although there was drought, the family income still reached 5,700 Yuan (AU$940). The per capita income was 2,600 Yuan (AU$430), increasing by 10.7 times compared with 242 Yuan (AU$40) 5 years ago. Nowadays this village becomes one of the most affluent villages in the region due to a cooperation to carry out and sustain an unique organic growing region that is internationally accredited.

We employ the tea farmers’ wives to individually weigh, pack and place the labels on the tins. We feel it is important to keep the funds within the tea farming community so the people who do the hard labour intensive work can also share in the prosperity of this international joint effort between Australia and China. We are pleased to support the Tea Peasant Cooperative Society established to assist the welfare of the tea farming community.

The locals live their whole life, from generation to generation, working in the tea business. Whether they pluck or craft the tea, they are the most experienced specialised people in the tea industry.
